Vinton Garden Club discusses best trees during monthly meeting

The Vinton Garden Club member of National Garden Clubs, Inc., District II, and Central Region met 11:30am  March 26, 2014 at Vinton Family Restaurant for lunch with Cam Wood as hostess. After lunch we went to Cam’s home for the meeting and program on,  “What are the best trees to plant?” by Jeff Schadle, Vinton Conservation Lead Person.

NCCC Cedar 6 Food For Thought

Kola & Brandon water the indoor garden to help prepare the seedlings to grow before transplanting By: Victoria Haddad AmeriCorps NCCC team Cedar 6 is serving with Matthew 25, Feed Iowa First and HACAP until May 1st. The team is assisting with planting vegetable seeds for local gardens. These seeds will eventually be harvested to help feed the Iowa low income residents in the community. So far Cedar 6 has assisted in planting 14,200 seeds in a hoop house.

Treasurer Fitzgerald has One Of A Kind Gifts for Mother's Day in eBay Auction

State Treasurer Michael L. Fitzgerald just might have that unique gift for Mother's Day. Fitzgerald will be hosting his next unclaimed property eBay auction beginning on April 24. "We will have an assortment of items up for bid, perfect gifts for Mother's Day," Fitzgerald stated. "Our eBay auction will be filled with one of a kind items and unique collectibles that were turned over in unclaimed safe deposit boxes.

AmeriCorps NCCC Class 20 Corps Member Spotlight: Chris Hyde

Chris Hyde, from Canton, Connecticut is serving on team Maple 2 in AmeriCorps Class 20. He arrived in Vinton on February 11 to start his 10-month service term. Maple 2 is made up of nine people from across the country who will serve together around the Midwest. Chris says “I think that service is important. Edwards, Comisky join Ellsworth Phi Theta Kappa

IOWA FALLS - The Alpha Iota Omega Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Ellsworth Community College inducted a record 54 new members last weekend. Phi Theta Kappa is an international honor society for two-year colleges. To qualify for membership, students must be in a degree-seeking program with a cumulative 3.25 grade point average, and have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours.

Area student ranks in top 2 percent in liberal arts and sciences at Iowa State University   An area student has achieved academic ranking in the top 2 percent of students in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa State University.  From Shellsburg,   Noah Lucas Hagen, junior, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Area students have achieved academic ranking in the top 2 percent of students in the College of Human Sciences at Iowa State University.
